About us

Who we are

Grow Wellbeing is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Wirral, working across the Liverpool City Region and Cheshire. We deliver practical outdoor programmes in woods, parks, gardens and community spaces — often in partnership with schools, health and community organisations.

Our team includes experienced practitioners across Forest School, education, horticulture, therapy and conservation.

Our vision

Healthy communities, strongly connected to the natural environment.

Our mission

To help people reconnect with nature, community and their own agency through enjoyable, practical outdoor experiences rooted in respect for self, nature and others.

Why we exist

Many people have fewer chances for meaningful time outdoors, practical skills, supportive relationships and a sense of belonging. When that connection is missing, it often shows up as isolation, stress, low confidence, disengagement from learning or community life, and reduced access to safe green space.

  • Nationally, less than half of children and young people (43%) spend time in outdoor spaces (other than gardens) every day or most days. GOV.UK

  • In Wirral, there are neighbourhoods ranked among the most deprived nationally for the Health and Disability sub-domain (IMD). wirralhealthwellbeingknowledgehub.co.uk

  • Loneliness remains a significant issue: around 7% of adults report feeling lonely often or always (Community Life Survey). GOV.UK

How we work

Across every programme, the same elements drive our impact:

  • Nature connection – practical outdoor time in woodlands, parks, gardens and community spaces

  • Creative, hands-on activity – tools, fire, gardening, crafts, building and food growing

  • Relational practice – skilled facilitators, emotional safety, acceptance of difference

  • Community & belonging – small groups, shared tasks, trust and supportive micro-communities

  • Place-based work – working with real local places across Wirral and beyond

Underpinning all of this is a consistent value base: respect for self, respect for nature and respect for others.

We understand wellbeing to include self-worth, confidence, agency and emotional regulation.

What this leads to

People often leave Grow sessions feeling:

  • calmer and more regulated

  • more confident to try new things

  • a stronger sense of self-worth and agency

  • more connected to others and to place

  • proud of what they’ve made or achieved

Over time, this can support better engagement with learning, work and community life, especially when people have faced barriers to thriving.

Our commitments

We’re committed to high-quality, safe and inclusive practice. Our sessions are led by skilled practitioners, and we keep improving through training, supervision and reflective learning.

  • Safe and inclusive delivery (safeguarding, risk management and accessible sessions)

  • Relational practice (emotional safety, acceptance of difference, supportive groups)

  • Continuous learning (ongoing CPD and sharing skills through training and mentoring)

We also share our knowledge through practitioner training, including Forest School leadership training.
